What is "Let's Start Talking"?

On May 12th, a group of Americans from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas will be arriving in Dresden from the USA. They are part of a project that brings them to Europe during their summer vacation. They want to see Germany and get to know German people better, but in order to be a part of the project, they agree to offer English conversation classes. This lets them get to know people personally rather than just as tourists.

Who is this for?

The Let's Start Talking program is for anyone who wants to improve their English, and have fun doing it, regardless of age. (But it is not a program for beginners.) The great thing about this program is that you can speak one-on-one with native English speakers in a friendly environment where you will feel comfortable and relaxed. This program has been used very successfully throughout the world for over twenty-five years to help people just like you improve their conversational English.

Do I have to be a member of the Gemeinde Christi?

No - anyone can participate in Let's Start Talking. Your religious beliefs are not important for this program.

What will we talk about?

You will be using a course book that is based on text from the book of Luke (in the Bible), along with simple exercises in vocabulary, grammar, and understanding. We do this because the Bible - regardless of your religious beliefs - really encourages interesting conversations. But there is also a great deal of freedom to talk about many other topics you might suggest. However, they really don't like to discuss political topics!

How often will we meet?

These classes are individual, one-on-one conversations so that each person has the opportunity to practice personally. The classes are for 45 minutes and you may come up to 3 times per week if you wish (depending on your personal schedule). The schedule is totally up to you.

They have also planned other special events (like a weekly party) where all of the participants are invited to come and have fun while practicing their English.

Why is it free?

The Gemeinde Christi in Dresden has provided housing as well as rooms for the classes at no cost to the project, and the english speakers have donated their time.
